Goals and Objectives

The Jaybird Foundation provides community engagement through history, the arts, economic development and nature by restoring historic properties and revitalizing local townships. There are several key goals and objectives we use to support our mission.

Identify and research

Identify and research properties in Montgomery County in need of historic renovation.

Advocate and Fund

Advocate for, transfer ownership of buildings, and fund preservation projects in Montgomery County.

Connect

Connect with community stakeholders to identify economic and cultural use for properties.

Restore

From project plan to property registration, we will restore properties and establish occupancy for reuse.

These goals and objectives ensure that the Jaybird Foundation is continuously accomplishing our mission of restoring historic properties.

Why Adaptive Reuse

Adaptive reuse preserves a community’s unique heritage by renovating buildings instead of demolishing them, helping to prevent overdevelopment. It encourages new businesses in established neighborhoods, making them more vibrant, walkable, and economically stable. Repurposing underutilized buildings can be faster and less expensive than new construction, especially if the structure is sound. Reusing materials like tiles and metalwork reduces the need for new products and minimizes environmental impact by cutting down on waste. Adaptive reuse also revitalizes dilapidated areas, reversing urban blight and breathing new life into communities.

The Jaybird Foundation is committed to supporting townships in identifying historic properties and fostering adaptive reuse efforts as part of the broader mission of America250PA. Established by the Pennsylvania legislature and Governor in 2018, the Pennsylvania Commission for the United States Semiquincentennial (America250PA) was created to plan, encourage, develop, and coordinate the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. This includes highlighting Pennsylvania’s integral role in the event and showcasing the impact of its people on the nation’s past, present, and future. Through these efforts, the Jaybird Foundation helps ensure that historic sites are preserved and repurposed, contributing to the ongoing legacy of Pennsylvania and its place in American history.
